Zona Colonial of Sto. DGO., Colonial City of Santo Domingo

The Colonial City or Colonial zone as it is commonly called the most ancient area of Santo Domingo,  It was the first city to be founded in the new world and it was built on the banks of the Ozama River in Santo Domingo, being the first city founded by Europeans on American soil, This city was named as Santo Domingo de Guzmán in honor of the founder of the order of preachers monk, better known as the Dominicans. The streets and buildings tell the story of as passed the early settlers in America. The buildings in this area have the honor of being the first buildings of the new world, where we can find interesting tourist destinations such as the first American Street known as calle Las Damas in honor to the dresses of the virreina Doña María de Toledo that according to tradition resided in it, also on this street the first stone houses were built for Pathfinders and main characters of the time, the Alcázar de Colón, son of Admiral Cristóbal Colón belonged to Diego de Colon, the first Sun clock, The Cathedral Primada de America, The first University of the new world named Santo Tomas de Aquino, The Fortaleza Ozama, built to protect the city on the banks of the Ozama River.

 Through the first streets of America and its monuments we will feel that we carry at the time of its foundation, the 5 in August of the 1,498 on the Eastern Bank of the Ozama River by Bartolomé Colón and moved later in the year 1, 502 by Frey Nicolás de Ovando to the Western Bank of the Ozama. Cities founded by the Spanish Crown in Dominican land, Santo Domingo de Guzmán is the only city which is intact despite the passage by the time, they are more 5 centuries this city keeps history and monuments for the enjoyment of human, because of this, It was declared as world heritage by the Organization of the United Nations for education and culture (UNESCO) under the name of Colonial City of Santo Domingo the 8 of December 1,990. The Colonial City of Santo Domingo has to offer its visitors a wide variety of restaurants with varied styles of cooking,  colonial-style hotels at night nightlife old covers and leads to fun, If you come from abroad or live in Dominican Republic you can not miss visit the Colonial City of the first Santo Domingo de America.
