Espaillat is one of the 32 provinces of the Dominican Republic, located in the Midwest, It corresponds to what is called the Cibao Central.

She originally belonged to San Francisco de Macorís, San Antonio de el Yuma, Matanzas (Nagua), Juana Núñez (Salcedo) and Moca, as header. All this territory belonged to the province of La Vega. Its name honors one of the great Dominican civil, the former President Ulises Francisco Espaillat (1823-1878).
