Boca de Yuma, La Altagracia

Boca de Yuma is a beautiful little fishing village. That despite its high level of tourism, it is a humble town surrounded by beautiful beaches where its people are very simple and hard-working.. It is located south of the province of La Altagracia on the shores of Yuma Bay and west of the mouth of the Yuma River., this beautiful paradise is a short distance from several tourist centers such as La Romana, Higuey and Punta Cana.

The name of Boca de Yuma is originated because the so-called Yuma River flows into this town., just as it was also home to the Yuma Tribe of the Taíno Indians.

The Caribbean Sea bathes its coasts, thus making it a unique and characteristic place where it has a pleasant climate and a peculiar and unique nature..

Its wonderful gastronomy allows us to enjoy delicious grilled fish and seafood, as well as more national and international dishes that we can taste in its different places;  and if we want to enjoy several days in this beautiful town, it has two hotels available.

It has many attractions for its visitors, including fishing, your excursions, its beautiful navigable river, beaches, caverns and the Este National Park, one of the largest in our country.

Among its tourist places is the Bernad Cave which has great peculiarities such as its many petroglyphs carved on its walls and floors.; It is located on the outskirts of Boca de Yuma, within the National Park of the East.

There is also Punta Virgen, which is a great view where you can see the entire Bay, the white beach, Cabo San Rafael and the whole south of the town.

The Yuma River as mentioned before is navigable during its first 2 km, on your way you can fish, see iguanas, pelicans and many other birds, just as we can find and observe the cave of Pirata Cofresí who has been blocked since Hurricane Georges occurred in 1998.

Another of its attractions is Playa Blanca, which can only be accessed by boat from the town's port., here you can practice water sports such as diving among others.

Its most important attraction is the Parque Nacional del Este since it is the main ecological tourist attraction and as already mentioned it is the largest in the country, It is located between Bayahibe and Boca de Yuma, This consists of the richest reserve in the country, with a great diversity of both marine and terrestrial species.

If it is about history, then this town is not far behind, so when it comes to going on an excursion, the Juan Ponce de León museum cannot be overlooked., located in the small town San Rafael de Yuma a few kilometers before Boca de Yuma, This museum was the home of the Spanish conqueror Juan Ponce de León after his arrival from Puerto Rico.

 And if you are a tourist who loves to enjoy the springs then you can enjoy the Hoyo Azulito spring, which is a natural saltwater pool.
